a guide to designing your custom order

speckled / solid

I offer two types of clay for your pot to be made from and each type will interact with the glazes differently

please note that the test tiles in the numbered grid are shown on solid clay — if your pot is going to be made with the speckled clay, dark brown speckles will show through almost all of the glazes. see the photo to the left for an example

swatch shape

choose what shape you want the bottom of each color swatch to be

please note that the interior of the swatches will all be squared (what is inside the lip of the pot)

8 colors

each pot has a total of 8 swatch colors

choose all 8 colors of your own or choose from one of my preset palettes (shown below). you can also choose a preset palette and simply change 1 or more of the colors.

color labels

the most customizable part are the color swatch labels

Keeping it simple with 1-2 words per label works the best, but 3-4 short words can fit. You can customize all 8 or choose just a few. I can also leave the labels off entirely if the handwriting isn’t your thing.

If you are giving me the color names, anything you capitalize I will capitalize — otherwise it is all in lowercase.

how to read the test tile grid

the photos in the grid below are a zoomed in version of these test tiles from my studio

transparency

all of the test tiles have the texture on the right side. this won’t be added to your pot, but it does show how transparent a glaze is.

mottling

some glazes are mottled and contain more than one color. it can be a little unpredictable how much of each color will show up in a swatch

crystals

glaze 25 is an example of “crystals” in a glaze — sometimes there will be just a few, sometimes there will be a lot

texture

if a glaze has a texture, I have noted it in the glaze descriptions

matte

some glazes are matte (not shiny) and are labeled in the descriptions below

glaze colors

a quick note: some of these images are from the glaze manufacturer website so the colors may vary slightly. I am working to get all of my personal test tiles made for my studio. (number 4, 16, 20, 22, 26, 28, 29, 30, 31, 32, 33, 36, 41, 52, 53, 58, 61, 62, and 64 are manufacturer images)

glaze descriptions

Since some colors can look a little confusing in a zoomed-in photo, I have added quick descriptions and some notes to each glaze below. If you have further questions or want to see more photos of each test tile please reach out! I’ve also added a “closeups and details” section to show more of the glazes.

all glazes are shiny/glossy unless otherwise noted!
